Yesterday I attended a Town Hall meeting for the Army part of the KMC.  The invitation was offered as a privelege, and I accepted because I'm curious about things.  Many bigwigs (all civilians, I thought interesting)  from various departments spoke, describing insights and offerings into ongoing and future events.  We heard from the store managers ( Read more... )

I spent 3 hours this afternoon, as an actual, official, approved, authorized and validated volunteer.  I learned that people in uniform don't easily take direction for civilians or local nationals, that the largest source of contaminated water from the Army is from the washing of vehicle parts, and that the environmental officer for AAFES (the Army ( Read more... )

I figured out that the reason I couldn't apply to change diapers yesterday is because Fate wants me to volunteer.  This morning I had an email from the DPW letting me know that if I just fill out one more form, it's guaranteed approval and I can probably start next week!  Can you believe it?

Today I set out to apply for a job changing diapers and wiping snotty noses.  I checked the location and the hours in my little Find It Guide (most recent edition) and drove over to Pulaski.  What's this? The JAG building at Kleber perfectly illustrates the situation.  The building has many doors, each with a sign outside identifying the offices within.  When you enter, you are in a stairwell.  At the door between the stairwell and the building is a sign saying, "This is not an entrance."  How do you get in?  You keep trying every door until you hit ( Read more... )

Maybe I found the reason why volunteering is so difficult.  The January/February issue of Mother Jones says, in an article entitled Dawn of the Red, that in May, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif) said that the White House's offer of a volunteer position to then-Rep. Joe Sestak (D-Pa) might be an impeachable offense ( Read more... )
